Description
Tire tuning is very important. And once the tires are mounted, you want the air captured inside the tire to have access to the ambient air to reduce inconsistent tire/wheel performance.
There is some difference of opinion on where to punch the hole, and these are the areas racers use:
- In Tread of Tire: The theory is the surface the tire runs on cannot enter the tire due to tire rotation. My problem with this method is water entering the tire when being washed and is captured by the foam and may cause imbalance. But several fast guys use the method.
- In Bottom of Wheel: This is one of the more popular methods and makes more sense to me. Downside is forgetting to punch hole in wheel before tire mounting!
- Where the Sidewall Meets Tread: This seems to be more popular location with the offroad racers. Those I know say it works very well.
In any case, the tire wheel assembly needs a hole punch for consistent lap times. Tires and rims shown are not included. Color of handles may vary.
